Sanchaari Allahabad a social initiative, which aims to revive the glorious city of confluence of tradition, art, culture and heritage, organised an event on 28th August, 2015 at Hotel Yatrik, titled Kajri ke Sang, Sawan ke Rang. This was the second event organised by the social initiative in the city, which was a grand success like the earlier one.
The event was an initiative taken by the organisation, in order to promote a local art form called Kajri. Kajri (or Kajari), derived from the Hindi word Kajra orKajal, (meaning Kohl or Black), is a genre of Hindustani classical music, popular in Uttar Pradesh and Bihar. In a country of sizzling hot summers, the black monsoon clouds bring with them relief and great joy. This is the moment for the Kajri to be sung.
The theme of the event was green and yellow, traditional snacks, beverages and sweets like Hare Bhare Kebaba, Dum Aloo Kachori , Ghevar , Anarsa and Thandai were served during the event. Women from various parts of city attended the function clad in 6 metres of rich weaves and natural threads. Many eminent personalities and social figures were also part of the event. The decor of the hall was done with chunri dupattas and marigold flowers to give it the ethnic touch. The guests were welcomed with itr (fragrance) and gajras (flowers) during the event. The folk songs were sung by radio artists who are well honed in the art form.
